Planning submitted for a modern country house in the South Downs National Park

We have submitted a full planning application for a substantial new country house that replaces the dilapidated Westbury House. The property provides a modern multi-generational property at the centre of this historic estate on the edge of the Meon River and at the heart of the South Downs National Park.

The design is a modern response in the neo-classical Palladian tradition that integrates the Golden Ratio throughout. It replaces a poorly extended property that replaced the original Palladian property that was destroyed in a fire in the early 20th century. The scheme reinstates key features of the historic Bridgeman Landscape, re-centring the house on the historic axis.

The proposal provides 36,000sqft of accommodation, including a substantial underground car park, forming the piano-nobile and spa facility.
