Bartlett Arboretum & Research Laboaritory Practical Completion

Bartlett Arboretum - Practical Completion

We’re pleased to mark Practical Completion of the new Research Laboratory and Arboretum building at Bartlett Arboretum.

Set within a sensitive landscape, the project brings together Scientific arboricultural research, education and ecology in a carefully considered, low-impact building. From the outset, the ambition was to create a robust and adaptable facility that supports scientific work while sitting comfortably within its arboretum setting.

The building has been delivered using Modern Methods of Construction, with an off-site fabricated timber panel system enabling the superstructure to be erected and made watertight in just a few days. This approach compressed the programme, reduced weather risk, and allowed earlier access for follow-on trades, while maintaining high levels of quality, airtightness and thermal performance.

Sustainability has been central throughout. A timber-based structure lowers embodied carbon, factory fabrication reduces waste, and a shortened construction programme minimises site disturbance and vehicle movements. The result is a building that aligns design intent with as-built performance.

Reaching Practical Completion is a significant milestone, and we’re grateful for the collaborative approach of the wider project team and contractor in delivering a complex building efficiently and with care. We look forward to seeing the building come fully to life as it enters use.
