A housing odyssey

Sunday, January 29th, 2017

This week we went on an epic urban design odyssey with @BargateHomes in search of great new housing schemes. Our 12 hours in a landrover took us first to Newhall in Harlow before heading up to Accordia, @GreatKneighton and Trumpington Meadows in Cambridge. Ahead of schedule we were even able to fit in an old favourite in Guildford on the way home by @jtparchitects. Our quest was to search out the best urban design and the best modern house types. It was hugely rewarding, often surprising, definitely challenging, with many a well published scheme disappointing. It was certainly inspiring and well worth the effort. Scroll down to enjoy the tour and discover the winning development….

we loved seeing a car jacked up at Stirling prize winning Accordia!

on balance and after all that there was unanimous agreement…….the winner in the ‘Snug architect best new housing development where everyone is a winner’ is Trumpington Meadows by @Barrattplc and @alliesmorrison.  It really shows just what a difference the @HCA_UK can make.

Unanimous approval at Milford-on-sea Beach Huts

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017

There was unanimous approval of the emerging Milford-on-sea Beach Huts following the stakeholder site visit this week. Senior representatives of the council and the beach hut owners association visited the site to review the partially complete proposals. There was particular satisfaction in the quality of both the graphic concrete and Reckli end panels, both of which, it was agreed, will contribute significantly to the quality of the public realm. We are looking forward to seeing the project completed in the spring.

The Wall – Please vote

Friday, January 13th, 2017

We are delighted to have been long listed for The Wall, an international RIBA design competition to build a national Christian landmark that celebrates answered prayer. After 13 years of hard work, and no doubt many answered prayers, the project is now becoming a reality. The longlisted entries can now been seen at the links below.
We would love you to take a look and, if you felt inspired, to cast a vote and ‘like’ our entry. We would truly love to win this one, that is certainly our prayer. The judges have extended the deadline for voting to 23rd January and allowed us to go public on our designs. The shorted designs will be announced on the 7th February at an event in Westminster.
Find out more on the wall and get involved at http://thewall.org.uk
Our entry seeks to create a place where believers can gather to pray. More than that, we have sought to create a living wall, alive with the prayers of those who will visit and those whose prayers that are tweeted in, triggering a multitude of lights that transform the wall into a physical embodiment of the life in the Church.
Our concept is for a wall made of  1 million bricks, donated from across the regions. Together they form a powerful reminder of our unity, one in Christ, forming a single continuous surface without  or end. We achieve this through the use of a Möbius strip, creating a continuous loop of wall that allows visitors to process through a triumphant arch, the gate beautiful, before encircling the wall, bricks arranged to represent prayers of praise, confession, supplication, etc.
At the centre is space for many thousands to gather and, we believe, become host to great gatherings of the faithful.
Although beautifully simple and pure in form, it’s twisting arch will rise dramatically but in harmony with Britains rolling landscape. It is both gentle and dynamic, secure yet open and inviting. It’s form focuses up, in and out. We hope it will not only represent one million answers prayers but also inspire future generations to pray.
If you felt compelled to pass this on, that would certainly be much appreciated.

Office Space to Rent in the centre of the South Coast

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

We are looking for a tenant to take on the other half of our studio’s in Totton, or Southampton Gateway as we are now calling it. The B1 office space is just under 2000sqft and comes with parking.  The space is a blank canvas with a larger open plan office, kitchen/break room with a large upstairs meeting room. It is also CHEAP!

Rumbridge street is a great location at the centre of the South Coast with great access to the M27 corridor. Having recently moved here ourselves, we have found Totton to be a pleasant surprise with plenty of places for staff to buy lunch, a nearby park with free tennis courts and easy access to either the waterfront at Ealing Lock or the New Forest for a Friday pint or lunchtime stroll. To see the full particulars please contact Patrick at Primmer Olds or view the link below:
